– 18:45-19:30: James Bore
“The Metavirus: Obfuscation to co-opt bespoke DNA production facilities”
Summary: manufacturing of synthetic DNA is becoming a commoditized field, with ordering online and delivery within days now possible. Given the complexity of decoding DNA without ‘executing’ it in a living cell, we could soon be talking about the first crossover virus between electronic information systems and biological systems. Covering a brief overview of the parallels between code and DNA obfuscation to exploit this attack vector, the manufacturing of DNA, and how safeguards in place need revisiting and review in light of the growing capabilities.
Bio: James is a security professional with wide-ranging experience and knowledge of the cyber and technology domains. He has worked within technology for the last two decades, and been speaking and researching on a range of different security-related and security-adjacent topics for six years alongside his hands-on work as a practitioner.
