Agenda
17:30 Registration / Welcome
17:50 General Assembly
18:15 Our first presentation
Dr. sc. ETH David M. Sommer: “AI and Data: Exploring the Intersection of Innovation and Security”
Highlights/abstract:
Artificial intelligence is reshaping the information management landscape. Its primary resource – the collection, storage, and processing of data – is becoming ubiquitous to create more efficient processes, help employees make smarter decisions, and provide better service to customers. Handling data properly, however, has proven challenging. Complying with regulatory requirements, mitigating privacy concerns without neutering the potential of AI, and assessing the risk of deployed AI systems are challenging on their own, and even more so in combination.
This talk will briefly illustrate the complex problem space and show how cybersecurity can help remove the barriers to realising these new opportunities. With reliable data security as a foundation, more advanced security considerations can unleash the full power of AI while minimising risk.
Bio:
Dr. David M. Sommer obtained his PhD at ETH Zürich, working on Privacy Preserving Technologies and Security in Machine Learning. Now, he is a member of the cyber-security team at Zühlke, pushes actively for regulation and legal certainty for deployment of artificial intelligence in Switzerland and Europe, and advocates for more reliable security in data handling procedures.
18:45 Our second presentation
Pierre-Mikael Legris: “Privacy by design”
Highlights/abstract:
The BAG introduced in August key changes in the Swiss Data Protection Act which businesses need to comply with the development of new platforms, introducing the requirement for “privacy-by-design”.
Pierre-Mikael Legris will present how a privacy-by-design approach can be applied to architectures and data models and enable long-term business agility. To illustrate this, Pierre-Mikael will also present the privacy constraints and compliance mechanisms implemented in Pryv.io software.
Bio:
Pierre-Mikael Legris is a Swiss-French computer engineer and entrepreneur with a strong passion for privacy and digital innovation. After recovering from a severe leukaemia, he co-founded Pryv SA in 2012, a pioneering data privacy and governance software vendor based in Lausanne.
The Pryv.io personal data management solutions have been empowering global data platform development since 2015, streamlining the efforts of tech, legal, and business teams in multi-jurisdictional contexts.
In addition to his role as CEO of Pryv SA, from 2022 Pierre-Mikael Legris also co-leads the “Data Governance & Privacy Practice” at Open Web Technologies.
19:15 Our 3rd presentation
Yanya Viskovich: “Leaders are the Strongest Link in Security”
Highlights/abstract:
“Many cybersecurity incidents are attributed to the human factor, including behaviours that are unintentional, intentional but non-malicious, or intentional and malicious. However, organisations with a mature cyber capacity recognise that systemic organisational failures are usually the root cause of incidents. Leaders, and the organisational cultures they foster, play a powerful role in either enhancing or undermining security capabilities, because although defences are engineered, their integrity is human-influenced.
This presentation outlines common pitfalls and key actions that leaders can take to strengthen their organisation’s cyber security posture and increase the sustainability of their security investments.”
